Kayode Idowu, Maiduguri

Three female suicide bombers and four residents of Umarari village near Molai, a suburb of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, were killed after the suicide bombers attacked the village in the early hours of Friday.

Our correspondent learnt that the villagers fled in different directions as news spread that the community was under the attack of Boko Haram militants.

A resident of the village, Yusuf Ahmed, said the explosions occurred between 5am and 5.20am on Friday when three female suicide bombers, who were believed to be teenagers, ran into houses in the village, detonating bombs strapped on them.

He disclosed that seven persons, including the three suicide bombers, died in the attack,

Ahmed added that about 20 persons were injured and had been rushed by the villagers to hospitals in Maiduguri.

Confirming the blasts, spokesman for National Emergency Management Agency in the North-East, AbdulKadir Ibrahim, in a text message to our correspondent, said, "At Umarari Bayan Waya, at around 5am today(Friday), there was an attack.

"The suicide attacks were carried out by three female suicide bombers."

He added that seven people were killed including the attackers, and 17 persons were injured.

Umarari is a village behind Molai, where two explosions in a mosque killed about 30 worshippers on Thursday night.
